The Bible encourages readers to have faith, walk in forgiveness, and be courageous. These virtues don’t come easily, but tested faith produces endurance and patience (James 1:2-4 NKJV). Learn how forgiveness and courage can help shape your walk with God while also helping you discover His path for you.
The Power of God Inside of You
Think about it: The same power that rose Christ from the grave dwells in all of those who believe in Him. That’s an incredible thing. If this power is in you, then there’s nothing that can stop you. When circumstances make life unbearably stressful, remember these circumstances can also strengthen your faith and help you develop courage.
The same goes for questioning God and not understanding why things happen the way they do. The very act of questioning brings you closer to God. Think about how a good student behaves. A studious child doesn’t sit in the back of the class in silence. Instead, they ask questions. And by asking questions, they gain knowledge, and in the process, they develop a relationship with the teacher.
The same goes for God. God wants His children to ask questions, and explore scriptures to seek Him. The psalmist says the Lord guides your steps (Psalm 37:23 NKJV). Perhaps God is showing you the next step, which might be how He reveals His will for your life.
How to Live According to God’s Will
The way you can know you’re walking according to God’s will is walking in His Spirit. The New Testament often reminds believers to walk according to the Spirit of God. When you begin to do this, two things happen. One, you begin to enact His will. And two, He begins to reveal His will — that is, His path for you.
The Bible is clear that God’s will is to make you more like Him. He wants you to be forgiving, loving, kind, and wise. You can focus on forgiveness, because this is the foundation of which your faith will grow.
You must understand that God has forgiven you. Many people grapple with this fact. Since God is love (1 John 4:16), He only has unconditional love to give, and from this comes forgiveness. That’s who He is. Your past is forgotten, and you’re no longer shackled by the chains of your past. Thus, much like a newly released prisoner, you must start over. This process of starting over after forgiveness often makes believers question God’s will, since believers want to live like God and not fall short so often.
Seeking God Daily
Pursuing this desire to follow God puts you on the right path, because desiring to know God is part of fulfilling His will for you. It’s natural, however, to want to know what exactly you’re supposed to do in life. It’s common to question God about what kind of career you should pursue, whether or not you should get married, which church you should attend, and how you should get involved in that church.
Your goal here should be to seek Him daily. This means involving Him in every part of your life through prayer and listening. Talk to Him as if He were sitting right next to you. Read scripture, find a good daily devotional, and try to talk to your friends, family, or preacher about your faith and theirs.
Having Courage in your Walk with God
Your relationship with God also takes courage, because He will call you into situations that take great strength, situations far outside your comfort zone. Here you once again move closer to Him for help. Because of His love for you, however, He is never far away. James 4:8 says that if you come closer to God, He will come closer to you too. He’s strong enough to carry your burdens, and He loves you beyond measure.
It’s in these moments of having a relationship with God that you find direction. Whether it’s a comforting word from a friend, or a passage in the Bible, the Lord will guide you if you seek His will. God longs to be close to you, and He is waiting with unconditional love to guide your steps on the journey He has for you.
